Why Use Soap Made With Hemp Oil?

Our experience with hemp as a soap ingredient started when adding hemp oil to one of our soap recipes. When testing the new recipe, we noticed this particular soap felt creamier and left our skin feeling softer and more hydrated.

If you’ve never tried hemp skin care products, consider hemp soap as an excellent way to experience the benefits of hemp without changing your daily beauty routine.

Hemp soap generally contains hemp oil, which is one of the world’s richest sources of polyunsaturated fats. It includes two of the most important essential fatty acids, Omega 3 and Omega 6, which are considered valuable for their skin-nourishing properties. The oil obtained from hemp plants is also considered a powerful moisturizer, and soap containing hemp oil is often recommended for dry skin.

Glycerin	A humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to your skin. During the soap making process, glycerin is made as a natural byproduct. Most of the commercial soaps you find in stores have had some of the glycerin removed. Melt and pour soaps have a higher percentage of glycerin, and thus is a lot more moisturizing to the skin than most store-bought soaps.
Propylene Glycol	Propylene glycol is a colorless, odorless liquid that is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). PG is used in melt and pour soap as a humectant. It is a wetting agent that helps oil-based materials mix with water.
Sodium Stearate	Ingredient used in soap making that is a result of using palm oil fatty acids. It is a cleansing agent.
Sodium Laureth Sulfate	An ingredient derived from Lauric Acid. It is used as a cleansing agent in soap and helps to increase lather. Lauric Acid is the acid found in coconut oil and palm kernel oil.
Sorbital	Sorbital is an ingredient in melt and pour soap that improves the clarity of the soap, and it is also considered a humectant. Sorbital has been used in cosmetic products for close to a century and is a Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) product by the United States Food and Drug Administration FDA.

Sodium Myristate	Ingredient used in soap making that is a result of using coconut oil or palm oil fatty acids. It is a cleansing agent.
Triethanolamine	Triethanolamine is used primarily as an emulsifier and surfactant. It also serves as a pH balancer in soap. TEA is a fairly strong base: a 1% solution has a pH of approximately 10, whereas the pH of the skin is below pH 7. In order for the soap to actually clean your skin, it must have a pH higher than neutral (7), in the range of 8-9 pH.

DMDM Hydantoin	Ingredients added to melt and pour soap when Goat’s milk is an ingredient. This ingredient has antimicrobial qualities, working as a preservative.
